After the resignation of our own Stuart Street from the position of Accompanist with the Choir we have been extremely fortunate to welcome Cameron Lewis to the role.
In March 2024 Cameron was invited to join Côr Meibion Morlais and has accompanied them in many concerts and occasions. He enjoys playing for Côr Meibion Morlais and looking forward to many future happy years.
Cameron has always shown an interest in music from a very early age and started playing the piano at five years old, giving his first solo performance at the age of 9 with Cor Meibion Abercynon. Since then, Cameron has played alongside the choir several times, including stepping in to accompany the choir. Cameron was the piano soloist on a tour of Brittany in 2017.
Cameron received a distinction in his ABRSM piano exams Grades 1-8, Cameron received the Dorothy Grace Atkins Award for his Grade 6 and 7. Furthermore, Cameron was awarded a music scholarship with the Cathedral School Llandaff between 2015 — 2021 and was also a chorister at Llandaff Cathedral and was Deans Scholar for two years.
In 2018 Cameron toured with the Welsh National Opera’s production of Tosca and in 2019 was given the part of first boy soprano in the Welsh National Opera’s production of the Magic Flute.
Cameron studied for his A-levels at Radyr Comprehensive School alongside studying music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama since the age of 11 until he was 18 years old, where he studied piano with Daniel Lewis (known as the Bach pianist) and voice under Paul Bagley, and he took part in many Concerts and recitals.
Cameron was the sole recipient of the Sir David Wilcocks Organ scholarship, which enabled him to have organ lessons at Llandaff Cathedral. He was the resident organist at St Donat’s Church Abercynon between 2018 – 2020.
As well as accompanying two choirs, Cameron is just starting his second year of his Music Degree in Cardiff.
A special thank you to Mr Jonathan Gulliford with whom he is studying a Music Diploma, for all his help and guidance he has given to Cameron.
